Flora-chek is a quick and simple method to check the vaginal health.
It is a value that indicates the degree of acidity of the vagina.
A healthy woman has a slighlt acidic pH value ranging between 3.8 and 4.5. Any alteration in this physiological pH value indicates a possible infection or inflammation. For example, a less acidic environment (pH higher than 4.5) can be associated with an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria such as Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides spp., Mycoplasma hominis, Prevotella spp., Porphyromonas spp., Peptostreptococcus spp., Mobiluncus spp., and Trichomonas vaginalis.
Flora-chek is a simple device allowing you to measure the vaginal pH. It has an absorbing pad on the index finger to collect the fluid. The pH indicator (specifically located on the thumb to avoid the contact of any chemical agent with the vagina) will change colour according to the vaginal pH.
pH between 3.8 and 4.0 associated with whitish discharge and symptoms such as itching or burning: Possible Candida infection.
pH between 3.8 and 4.5 in absence of any sign or symptom: The vaginal ecosystem is apparently normal and healthy. In case of any doubt, repeat the test after a few days.
pH higher than 4.5 associated with vaginal discharges which can be malodorous or not: Dysbiosis with a depletion or absence of H202 -producing lactobacilli and consequent overgrowth of potentially pathogenic bacteria (Bacterial Vaginosis).
pH higher than 4.5 associated with vaginal discharge, itching and burning: It may be a Trichomonas vaginalis related infection.
